Franklin D. Gray was born and raised in Minneapolis. He graduated first in his class from West High School, attended the University of Minnesota and received a B.A. degree with honors. He was selected as a Rhode Scholar and attended Oxford University.
Franklin spent his entire professional career - 61 years - with the law firm that now carries his name: Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty, & Bennett. He coupled his brilliance as a trial lawyer with his compassion and concern for all those involved in the legal process.
To honor this 33-year member of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis, a four-year academic scholarship was established in his name in 1991. This scholarship is awarded each year to one or two students chosen from the seven inner-city Minneapolis Public High Schools. Nominated by school counselors or teachers, these students are generally not the top in their class, but display potential to achieve great things.
